Work in the field of corrosion focuses on studying dissolution/degradation mechanisms at metal/solution interfaces. The study of corrosion in applied systems (e.g. nanostructured, multi-element, high entropy alloys, etc.) or battery/electrolyser components is a major focus of our research, particularly in collaboration with our industrial partners. Professor Virginie Roche has been conducting studies on titanium and magnesium alloys for biomedical applications and, more specifically since 2021, for applications as biodegradable stents. The electrochemical characterisation of different coated and uncoated alloys (mineral or organic coatings) for biomedical applications is also a major area of research. The detailed study of interface mechanisms using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy is a key focus of the corrosion research programme.
